There’s plenty of room to roam on our land – roads through the fields, beside the farms, trails through the forest: as Rooted Northwest co-founder, project manager, permaculture educator, and resident on the land Dave is fond of saying, you could run a whole 5k without leaving Rooted Northwest!

Here are a few scenes from an early-morning October walk at Rooted Northwest. See below for info about other trails nearby!

But if you’d like to run or walk farther or just want a change of scene, in less than 10 minutes you can drive to the Trafton trailhead of the Whitehorse Trail, a part packed-gravel, part paved trail in an old railroad bed that runs east from Trafton to Darrington along the Stillaguamish River. There’s fishing there, too – steelhead and salmon in season.

Heading west on the Whitehorse Trail from Trafton, a flat 4-mile walk will bring you to Arlington, where you'll meet up with the Centennial Trail near Haller Park. Along the way, you'll walk mostly under the trees and catch views of the Stillaguamish and occasional wildlife. This section isn't currently open to bikes, but will soon get an upgrade so you can roll all the way into town.
